Nestled in the quintessential upper east side neighborhood with proximity to Central Park, this pre-war home was built in 1938.

We begin by acknowledging the best elements of pre-war buildings: the signature detailing, the reliable construction, and versatility of space usage.

antonio matrēs design has the opportunity to revitalize this space, transforming it to a contemporary feel while preserving nods to the history of its construction.

Keeping the base flooring as reference to the original design, the entryway brings guests into a fluidly connected kitchen, living, and dining room.

Soft tones carry occupants through each room, walls textured with soft warm tone paint bring a calm to the space. Actualizing a third bedroom with private access along with expanding the other guest room accounts for the aging of the children residents.

By identifying the small kitchen, small bathrooms, antiquated loud radiators, we are able to update without losing sight of the charming elements preexisting.

In this home, saying “custom” doesn’t do justice to the nuance of personalization.

From hand crafted sconces and wall art, to dining chairs designed and fabricated by our in-house team, to closet organization built to lifestyle and belongings, the limit does not exist in the transformational qualities provided.

The continuation of wood flooring expanding and flowing from room to room, bathroom to bathroom, builds a base of connectivity.

Floor to ceiling doors and flush ceiling lights expand the physical space. Tiles made specially for this project paired with made to order light fixtures that double as works of art, our aim to elevate the design and functionality of what it means to be “home” comes to life.

Seamlessly blending the old and the new, the renovation accommodates and elevates the bustling lives in this family home.
